Urth x Municipal Collab—Now in Oceanside!

Urth Caffé has teamed up with Mark Wahlberg's Municipal in a historic collaboration at Municipal's flagship store in Oceanside.

This is the first Urth Caffé in the San Diego area and Urth Caffé is proud and honored to be a part of this beautiful community and bring Urth's ethos and love for its beloved guests not only to the San Diego area but to Municipal—an accessible luxury brand that shares Urth's vision of community and accessibility.

Mark Whalberg's Municipal brand embodies an empowering mission to "inspire people to bet on themselves and make big things happen." Urth Caffé couldn't be prouder to partner with an organization with such positive core values! While also providing the finest organic, always sustainably sourced coffee and tea.   

I was lucky enough to visit the Municipal/Urth in Oceanside and found a welcoming space. Artfully arranged with comfortable seating areas, four wide-screened t.v.'s—it's clothing line showcased throughout the well-designed interior. Guests are encouraged to come, bring their laptops if they wish and linger all day. An easy and inviting place to hang out and sip Urth's delicious coffees and teas and nibble on selected bakery items (more menu items coming soon!).

The grand opening for the store was on November 13th, 2024. And the Municipal Urth opened November 19thwith Municipal generously offering all coffee and bakery items for free to its customers for a time! Each and every day, a 20% discount is offered to first responders, community helpers, teachers and students—Municipal's way of giving back to those that give to us.

Says, Harry Arnett, CEO of Municipal, "We took a lot of time and effort as you would expect, finding the right people to staff the Municipal Urth. Just people that have an incredible care and passion for the product, experience as well as the customer." There is a genuine love for the coffee being served, and the customers. You can really feel an excitement about the products, beverage and bakery items being provided—it comes from the heart, and it is very evident in the expertise and passion of the baristas.

This particular Urth coffee and tea bar is set up differently than any other Urth Caffé which makes it extremely unique. The coffee bar is black-bricked and solid. The lines sleek and simplistic. Minimalist meets a comfy vibe. It is set up so that it has seating right at the bar—like a bar, and has become people's favorite place to sit, talk to the baristas, and watch their delicious drinks being created and served. "I can't tell you in a week how many Spanish Latté's we've sold—if you told me 1000 it wouldn't surprise me. People really have an appreciation for the level of care and quality Urth brings. It's been a really fun project and a really fun partnership," explains Harry.

In addition to the indoor seating mentioned, there is also seating on the outdoor patio, right on the Pacific Coast Highway—100 yards from the ocean on the coolest stretch of coastal highway in America. A little something for everybody! 

Urth/Municipal along with its café beverage offerings such as organic (non-GMO) espressos, lattés, cortados, flat whites, cappuccinos, creamy rich hot chocolate and delicious organic hand blended herbal teas, has a few specialty items that are unique to Municipal and not offered anywhere else. Like Lev's Cold Plunge, a cold brew short shot (ristretto) espresso sublimely and delicately blended with hand pressed chicory tea, espresso, vanilla and just a hint of cinnamon. Then served over ice and topped with a non-dairy coconut cream foam that surpasses all other cream foams I have tried. Creamy, rich yet refreshing, this is a drink not to be missed! And if you are an espresso purist, as I am, you will appreciate the way the delicate melding of flavors brings out and enhances the flavor of the perfectly pulled ristretto shot.

Also available is their drip coffee, a special Municipal blend called Mark's Municipal Drip—Mark went a little viral last year talking about his Municipal drip (meaning the way he was dressed), so this coffee is named after that. This is a special one-of-a-kind blend of beans, created by Urth's Co-founder, Shallom Berkman, exclusively for Mark and Municipal. A carefully curated blend of heirloom organic micro-lots from Africa and Ethiopia. The African beans from the exclusive Urth source at The Mountain Gorilla Coffee Estate on the border of Uganda, Congo, and Rwanda, and an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. It is a medium roast, rich and aromatic with notes of vanilla and cinnamon. 

And coming soon is the Municipal Urth Oceanside Latté, which is a latté made with sea salt, chocolate and caramel. The sea salt added as a nod to their surroundings and a fun reflection of their prime location right at the ocean. Urth Municipal will continue to add seasonal and unique features that guests will enjoy. And Mark and Shallom are at Urth Headquarters working on some new and exciting drinks together—here's a peek. 

This collaboration is one of mutual respect, caring, a desire to give back and lift up, and to provide the best most accessible product to the community.
